Twelve

All day I have been thinking about you. I couldn't help but think back to our last day with you still inside me and all of the excitement that came knowing that we would finally meet. 41 weeks you made us wait, but who was keeping track, honestly?! Knowing who you are now, I am not surprised that you came late. I can honestly say that I have grown to love your stubbornness.
All year, we have been counting down to this moment. All year, we have watched you change, grow, and learn. All year, apart of me was dreading this moment because I thought it would mean that you would no longer be a baby, or need me as much.
Now that we are here, and in this moment, I can honestly say that I am excited. I am far less emotional than I anticipated, and I look forward to more of your independence as you grow and learn. I know now that even as you get older you will still need me, because I will still need you.

How long will I love you?
As long as the stars are above you, and longer if I can.
How long will I need you?
As long as the seasons need to follow their plan.
How long will I be with you?
As long as the sea is bound to wash upon the sand.
How long will I want you?
As long as you want me to, and longer by far.
How long will I hold you?
As long as your father told you.
As long as you can.
How long will I give to you?
As long as I live through you.
However long you say.
How long will I love you?
As long as the stars are above you, and longer if I may.
